Every day we are absorbed by stress, from the sneaky thoughts that occupy our mind to actual tasks we must complete. This leads us to become more self-absorbed, bitter and colder. When I say colder I don’t mean you treat people badly, I just mean most times we don’t really listen to others or care because we don’t have time.
How can we let time control us?
Control the way we feel, the way we think and the way we react. We end up feeling forgotten but mainly because we also forget people. Sometimes the best thing we can do is ask someone how their day was and listen. Even though it is a simple question it means a lot. My advice is to start by asking someone close to you how their day was even if you have a thousand things to do. When you are ready to do more below is a list of how you can be kind. By helping others, you end up helping yourself because your life will become full of light.
Life should only be measured by happiness and those with a smile are living to the fullest.
A list of suggestions for those who want to be kind:
- Write someone a letter just because you were thinking about them. Write about how that person has influenced your life, thank them for the good moments (write some down) add some doodles and photos. Sometimes it’s good to have physical proof of someone’s love.
- Send a happy good morning text or a long good night text to the first person that comes to your mind
- Smile more. Although it sounds cliché, you prefer to talk to a positive person than someone that never smiles. It´s like talking to a grumpy statue.
- Volunteer (even If it is just for a day)
- Bake cookies for your friends (I know this sounds very childish but not only baking is relaxing as it is a bubbly gesture)
- Write a beautiful dedication in a book then give it to someone that you know would love to read it
- Make breakfast in bed for the person you live with (mom, boyfriend/girlfriend or roommate)
- If you are about to criticize a photograph or a post, like it and comment something nice. Believe in what you say, don’t bring negativity to your life.
- If you are going to leave home or the country for a while, leave in your house a plate filled with tiny pieces of paper with advice. Every time someone needs you but they can’t reach you, they can just take a paper.
- Leave sticky notes with fun sentences or drawings on your sister’s purse or your boyfriend’s car.
- Leave nice comments on startup blogs or business sites. They need it more than you think.
- Instead of texting a friend that is going through a break up actually make them company. Buy some popcorn and rent a movie or go out with the goal to have fun. Be the actual company instead of the virtual one.
- Compliment a friend you think is needing a confidence boost
- Give up your seat on the bus with a smile
- Write and send a thank you note by mail.
- Send a care package to someone you know that lives far. Fill it with cookies, photos, letters and other things you know they will like.
- Call someone you haven’t talked for a while
- Make something personal for a family member, like a treasure hunt or a playlist.
- Buy chocolates and share them with a friend
- Smile at a stranger
- Donate some of your books to an orphanage
- Bring flowers to your grandmother or buy a book for your grandparents
- Let someone go in front of you in the line
Start a new era where instead of gossip you talk about others achievements. You are nice about how the people you know are growing to become better. Don’t stain yourself as a person that bad mouth´s personal friends but be the person that is proud of the people that surrounds them. Actually, say honest beautiful things about your friends and don’t become a jealous friend that can´t accept others. Become a nice person to have a conversation with. Be kind. Not only be kind to others but also remember to be kind to yourself.
