Growing up with fairy tales we create an inflated illusion of what love actually is. Looking for clichés and kisses in the rain we become disappointed when it doesn´t work out as expected. Subsequently in this new era where divorces are easy and where half relationships are a thing we start to believe that love is actually just a myth. These now sceptical people start calling this anti-love movement being a realist. Love is not even something you should believe or not, it is just something you should acknowledge. It comes in all forms because everyone loves in different ways, therefore, the romantic comedy running in slow motion in a grass field into each other’s arms is unreal for most of us. Love is simple. It is not a bundle of romantic gestures following steps made by tradition, it is as natural as breathing.
What is true love?
True love starts inside you and then rapidly invades the other. It is a feeling where pink clouds fill your vision and honey sweetens life. Although it is something you can´t touch, you experience it all over your body. It’s so strong that no one or nothing can duplicate this connection. It’s so magical it creates the strongest bond you have ever felt. It is something so passionate even Italians can´t find the words to describe it.
Love is a fire that burns you with desire, a snow that freezes all your partner’s flaws and a wind that pulls you next to that person. It is a strong feeling that can leave you with a lot of joy or a lot of pain. It is terrifying in an exquisite way. The beauty of the bittersweetness is what differs it from any other kind of love we feel during our lifetime.
Love is a paradox
We never enter this kind of love asking questions, we fall without thinking twice but the moment we feel it lacking our brains flood with questions. When you feel true love for the first time you will know it. It leaves tangible proof by placing trails on your senses. You can see love transforming in the person you are meant to be with, you can feel its touch while every bone in your body shivers, you can listen to all the words filled with care, you can taste the lips and smell their scent melting through your flesh. This touch with the senses is followed by the absolute blindness of the heart with all its vulnerability. True love is a paradox in it´s being, it calms your heart but is fierce in its passion. It is simple in its honesty but rude in its protection. It is absolute havoc of the heart to let one person destroy order for the feeling of something new.
Why do we love?
If we actually think about where love stands in the world, it is one of the meanings of life. To love and be loved is one of the best experiences we have in our short mortal life. During we will feel it in all types of relationships starting with our mothers. One may say that as humans we are lonely beings and the gift of love brings us company in the chaos that is the world. Although it makes sense, there is greater depth in our search for love. It is not a desperate necessity but a beautiful gift.
According to Greek mythology, we all are searching for our other half to become whole. There is a certain comfort in knowing that out there may be a person that transforms us into a version that we can´t achieve alone. This theory might be fiction yet there is a certain truth in this search. When we find true love we find someone that teaches us to grow as a person becoming not only the best version of ourselves but to stretch to places we couldn’t alone. We must also add that as a couple we become one, so why not say we have found the other half? There is a reason in the phrase, “it only needs to work once”.
The three main reasons
To be plain and simple there are three main reasons we should believe in love if we look at it in the right perspective.
The first reason is that we have to forget the whole love at first sight idea. Love has a foundation. You fall in love with a soul, not a body. It takes time for your heart to see if that person is compatible and to become ready to surrender.
The second reason is that as I said above love is not a fairy-tale. All relationships need work because love is never enough. You can be completely passionate about someone without knowing who you would be without them but your devotion needs work. Relationships are healthy due to compromise, respect but most of all a lot of work.
Finally, the third reason that convinces most people do not believe in love is the fear that they weren’t made to be loved. News flash everyone in the world has the right to have that one person that sees perfection in a bundle of flaws. We all will be loved if we are open to that. Don´t think that the stock is small so the remaining few wouldn’t choose you.
