Annegien Schilling is a young artist with a different goal than those I write about. Her only mission is to explore her creativity and inspire those around her. The 18-year-old earns no money with her widely famous Instagram – @fetching_tigerss because she only wants to create. In a world where likes earn money, this artist chose to resist the temptation. This does not mean she does not earn as an artist because Annegien has a beautiful book called ‘Imagine. Shoot. Create.’
How did Annegien Shilling start?
She received her first camera when she was nine. Her father is a photographer so he wakens her artistic interest since young. Although it all actually started when she registered on Instagram at 13. Not being able to afford the necessary equipment for her art she made ends meet with an ipod Touch and editing apps. In four months she got 100.000 followers because her self-portraits had a different concept. Interviews, lectures and a book after she still uses apps to edit her imagination.
Doesn´t her age interfere with her judgment?
Annegien recognizes that she threw herself in a harsh world. Instagram changed her life yet it also had a dark side. At a young age, she had pages dedicated to hating her work. Working in a world of an older (10 years) public she felt lost. Even though she had to endure all this it made her work harder. She knows has a different view of the world. Even though with this fast-changing application she maintained her values. Her goal was to never earn money with Instagram because she thinks it would change her work. To maintain herself pure from the outside at her young age she was able to say no. This is quite inspiring.
